Duddu Prabakar: Upper caste dominated Corporate & Hindutva forces spread anti-reservation agenda

Background:

Duddu Prabhakar talks about how upper caste dominated corporate and Hindutva forces are spreading an anti-reservation agenda in the context of the recent agitation of Patels for reservations for Patidars led by Hardik Patel.

Patels in Gujarat brought the issue of reservation for Patels lead by a 20 year old youth, Hardik Patel. It has come to a stage where the whole nation is being shaken.

Who came? Who brought them? Why are they bringing? Why is there so much propaganda about it? Why is there propaganda about it all over India? Like I said earlier, people who cannot bear the idea of social justice, reject the idea of economic and political equality. And in counter they say that if you want to keep reservations, make us a part of BC reservation, otherwise ban the reservations all together. Whoever brought this slogan, during the Mandal commission, are the same people who are doing this agitation related to Patels, this is the section which had totally opposed reservations at that time.

Now, what is their whole plan? For example, if we take united Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states together, in IT sector, they, the upper castes, are the ones employed in majority. In IT sector, top ten are upper castes. Among the industrialists, top ten are upper castes. Take media for instance, be it electronic media or print media; except V6 in electronic media, all the rest are owned and run by Kamma, Velama, Reddy, Brahmin only. In Education sector, be it corporate education, be it corporate hospitals, be it contractors, all these are being ruled by upper castes, the top 10 among these are upper castes. In politics, it is the upper castes who are ruling, you already know that. Politically, economically, upper castes have totally captured the system. In the private sector, the industrialists do not want to implement reservations. Even though they are only 4-5% of population and altogether 20% that the upper castes constitute, these people have captured 99% of the system – be it economically or be it politically.

In this 91% that the private sector constitutes, those who are controlling it, those of you who have captured economic, social, political fields, why not give opportunities/employment to the poor among the upper castes in them, as you are also belonging to the upper castes?

It is only for social justice that the reservations were started. They are not based on poverty. Reservations are based on social backwardness. For the socially backward people in the oppressed castes, reservations were started in the public sector. When we got independence, 67% was public sector. Now the public sector has been reduced to less than 9%. Even while the upper castes have captured this whole system, they want to deny reservations to the oppressed even in this 9% public sector or else demand reservations for themselves in it. All this, be it cinema industry, be it paper, be it media, be it IT sector, be it industries, be it contracts, everything is dominated by them. In public sector jobs and private sectors jobs also, it is them.Even in public sector jobs also, they are bringing forwards slogans demanding that only they should get employment. This, on one hand, they say poverty-based reservations should be there. On the other hand, using the Hindutva ideology for the poor also, the poor among the backward castes, the rich among the backward castes, altogether, they unite them using religion. Taking poverty as a basis, saying reservations should be based on poverty, they cry crocodile tears for poor. Saying we are the representatives of all these poor, people like Hardik Patel are coming forward.

Based on Hardik Patel’s agitation, all over the country, there are poor among the upper castes, no? So, they say, all the poor among the upper castes should get united. Naini Narasimha Reddy says this. And the Reddys who are here, or the Velamas, are crying crocodile tears for the poor in these castes. Honestly, how many poor are there in those castes? If they are there, then what is your programme for them? Who is the reason for their poverty? In this 91% that the private sector constitutes, those who are controlling it, those of you who have captured economic, social, political fields, why not give opportunities/employment to the poor among the upper castes in them, as you are also belonging to the upper castes? As people belonging to the upper castes, you are feeling angry and sad about the poor in these castes, right? In the opportunities that you have, in the powerful positions that you have, give them opportunities. You are the reason for their poverty.

In order to silence this demand for reservation in the private sector, they (the upper castes) are raising their voice about reservations in the public sector.

People from oppressed castes who do not even have that, who just have reservation in that 9% the public sector constitutes, taking away the reservation in that too is like taking away the grain of rice from their rice water. Today, as part of this conspiracy, the upper caste people all over the country are getting united. The reason for all these upper castes getting united all over the country is the propaganda by media. As they are the ones controlling the media, in the private sector also it’s them, industrialists also it’s them. This is the time when demands by the oppressed caste are being made for reservations in the private sector. In order to silence this demand for reservation in the private sector, they are raising their voice about reservations in the public sector. All over the country, these corporate forces are creating people like Hardik Patel, to unite people all over the country and save their positions of power. To ensure that there would be no reservations in the private sector, so that no such demand comes to the fore at all, with great force they are bringing in people like Hardik Patel to the forefront.

All those who think that we need reservations in order to get social justice, need to protest against this agitation. It is very dangerous to ignore this. Already, the situation in universities is such that it is almost impossible for Dalits to gain admission. Not just now, but since the time Aryans came. During the time that the Aryans came, Brahmins used to learn Sanskrit. We have read in the puranas, in Shambukha’s story, that if Shudras listen to Vedas, molten lead should be poured into their ears and if they read Vedas, their tongues should be chopped off. Though it is not the (fact based) history, it is the only evidence related to history that we have. When Shambukha was in meditation, saying that because he is a person belonging to a Shudra untouchable caste and is meditating, because of which Brahmin children are dying, they went and told Rama. As a result, Rama came and killed Shambukha. This is the story. This is the evidence related to our history. Even at that time, Shudras were denied reading Sanskrit.  After the British came, they (the Brahmins) left Sanskrit. Only then, the Shudra castes began to read Sanskrit. Those who, until then, were reading Sanskrit and Vedas began to learn English. Till then, the Brahmins ran an empire like the British using Sanskrit and when the British came, they went to them and learnt English. And they occupied positions as consultants in the military and administration. By the time the Shudra castes learnt English in convent schools, the brahmins moved on to computers. By the time the oppressed castes learnt computers, they moved on to whatsapp and what not, names that we cannot understand, they moved there.

All those who think that we need reservations in order to get social justice, need to protest against this agitation. It is very dangerous to ignore this.

Similarly, even at the university level, in Ambedkar’s time, Dalits were not allowed entry into schools or to sit beside others. Even now, it is continuing, I’m not denying that, though might not be in majority cases. Dalits are kept away from schools as well as temples. After the RCM schools came, after the British started schools and churches, they got close to religious places and schools. By the time they got access to schools, privatization started in education through corporate schools. Big big corporate colleges started. By the time they got proper access to schools, upper castes and rich among the upper castes went off to corporate colleges. By the time these people went to corporate colleges, they went to universities. By the time they came to universities, they were no more in the universities, they went to foreign universities. See in this university, all are SC, ST, BC, minorities. Only 1% are upper caste people. Lakhs of students produced by these universities are thinking why do we need to care about social issues, and are taking part in this race of academics and are confining themselves to books and libraries while neglecting the social issues. Earlier, students who cared about social issues got educated and used to go to villages and spread awareness among them. Now, there’s a break in the relationship between people and students. Universities have become like Brahmin quarters. University students are not at all paying attention to social issues. This seems very dangerous. In order to preserve this education system, these universities, by  Hinduization of education, saffronisation of education, privatization of education, a gap has developed between social grounding and students. Earlier, when there were DSU, PDSU, RSU, students used to come bravely to universities. Now, on university students, attacks are happening, atrocities are happening, murders are happening, parents of girl children are dying of fear to send their children to universities and colleges. There is a lack of progressive thinking among students. This is coming forward as a dangerous pattern.
