S. V. Rajadurai on Rebranding Ambedkar, Reinterpreting India – Understanding the RSS Agenda – Part 1 – 2

The RSS now find it encouraged to expand its energy in strengthening its cultural nationalism that would help diffusing the anger of the masses of India. The anger generated by the blatantly anti-farmer, anti-Adivasi, anti-Dalit and anti-labor policies pursued by the Modi sarkar. From this strategy flows the varied attempts to Brahmanise the minds of the people, the people from the OBC and Dalit communities, and direct their anger not against corporate capitalism, not against casteism, not against imperialism but against the religious minorities by painting them as a devil incarnate. This is quite similar to Hitler's scapegoating of jews for all the ills of Germany.

Dr. Sylvia Karpagam on Public Health and Regulation in Karnataka

If all your investments are going into tertiary care and transplants and you are not talking about how to prevent kidney disease then your pyramid gets inverted. So most of your interventions are at the top, which is at the tertiary level, so health care become very complicated, complex driven by the tertiary care model which is not sustainable. And certainly it will not help in terms of health as a larger social good.

Prof. Anupama Rao: Babasaheb Ambedkar, Thanthai Periyar, Mahatma Jyotibha Phule were Radical Feminists

Marriage and sexuality, marriage and sexual control become a very important fulcrum for thinking about caste annihilation. That you cannot annihilate caste, this again i think is so very profound in anti-caste thought, that these are thinkers that think the intimacy of caste relationships. Because caste is about intimacy and it is about the withholding of intimacy and sociality from those with whom you could be intimate.

Prof. Anupama Rao on Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s conversion to Buddhism

I think he sees Buddhist conversion not as religious conversion from one religion to another as we tent to see it. But, that it is a religious conversion that as per him poses the greatest challenge to the Hindu order. That is why I call it a more of a secular criticism, because it is then challenging Hinduism as an order of power.

Prof. Anupama Rao on Caste and Anti-Caste

I would really think about caste as in it’s modern form, caste as a modern category that is related to the state. That is, that the state actually produces but is also affected by caste. And, that the colonial and capitalist modernity play a very very important role in transforming caste in the modern period for us.
